Ethnographic filmmaking

The more broad subject of ethnographic filmmaking is very interesting to me. The film Les Maitres Fous is considered a good example of this. Filmmaking, in general, gives away the perspective of the story teller, often quite obviously. Filmmaking, therefore, is good for ethnography and anthropology because the perspective of the anthropologist is helpful for understanding the whole story, as opposed to a historical writing that is supposed to be based on objective facts. Thus, filmmaking should be a very important way of portraying ethnographical information, whereas historical information should stick to the plain facts in a textbook. This way, the audience doesn't have a chance to examine body language and tone of voice, which can often add to the facts; this is something that should be avoided in historical writings but greatly utilized in ethnography and anthropology.
