On Westboro Baptist Church and the sometimes more obvious hypocrisy of extremist religious groups

     No sooner than actress Joan Rivers passed away Westboro Baptist Church was frantically tweeting very horrible pictures of the late actress and announcing their intentions to protest CBS and ABC whom they thought to be enablers of various forms of sinning. While perhaps they are the only ones who takes themselves seriously I think this provides a rare glimpse into a more pervasive theme of religious groups as a whole which is the stark contradictions between their actions and words. While the above is certainly an extreme example we can see subtle hypocrisy hints in any religion, even the notion of a Holy War at it's heart is a little contradictory the belief of bringing about peace using violence. In more recent times we've seen acts of that range from greed and over-embellishment to violence towards homosexual persons or women who have abortions or the people that support them by religious groups that preach frugality and peace. While this certainly represents the more vocal minority amongst religious groups it does make one wonder about human nature.

     I'd like to take this moment to expand upon that, and perhaps everyone could chime in, and ask what is it about the nature of humans that allows them to so easily hold and act on contradicting notions almost simultaneously and what implications may that have in understanding religious groups in the context of hypocrisy?
